Plans are on top gear for the conduct of local government election in Imo State.
The Chairman lmo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) Hon. Ethelbert Ibeawuchi stated this during a sensitization tour to the area.
He said the purpose of the visit was to create awareness and restore public confidence in the system.
Hon. lbeawuchi, represented by the ISCEC Commissioner I for Owerri Zone, Dr. Ambrose Uwa called for full participation in the poll and advised wards seeking for more units to apply to the commission.
He stated that presently, there is 133 polling units in Ahiazu with 25 ISIEC wards and if Lude is approved and carved out of Oru/Lude the wards will come up to 26.
Welcoming the Commissioner and his team, the LGA T C Chairman, Sir. Edmund Enwereji lauded the commission for the visit and and charged community leaders on intensive grassroots sensitization.
He called on Presidents-General, Women and youth leaders to educate voters on the need to exercise their franchise and elect God fearing and credible leaders who have interest of the people at heart.
The LG boss lauded the Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for the free education from primary to tertiary institutions in the state, massive road construction, modern twin storey 6-class room blocks, new general hospital, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Training Centre, Chapel and other people oriented projects and urged the people to keep supporting the Imo rescue mission government for more democratic largesse.
Among those who spoke, the Presidents- General, Nnemere Mpam – Mr. Philip Anyanwu, Oru Ahiara – Nze Tony Onuoha, Elekenowasi Obohia – Engr. John Chima, Lude Ahiara – Sir. Barnabas lwuji and Umuihuocha Obohia – Mr. Nick lbe expressed displeasure on the non conduct of LG election in the state for several years now and prayed the commission to make good her promise.
In a vote of thanks, the LGA Deputy Chairman, Comrade Frank Madu appreciated the commission for the enlightenment and assured commitment to the electoral process.
He enjoined the people not sit on the fence or stand akimbo in the exercise but like stakeholders contribute their quota for general wellbeing of the rurals.
Earlier, the ISIEC Commissioner, Dr. Uwa with the state staff of the Commission, Mr. Obinna Ajuzie, accompanied by the LGA ISIEC Electoral Officer (EO) Lolo Ada Nwigwe and Executive Officer Accounts – Mrs. Chinyere Egbuchulem on arrival at the LG Headquarters, Afor Oru paid courtesy visit to the TC Chairman in his office.
