The Federal Road Safety Corps in collaboration with the National Council on Education, and Nigeria Education Research and Development has approved the infusion of Road Safety Education in the Curriculum of Basic Schools in five Key Subjects.
The Imo State Sector Command, Mr Joseph Aremu disclosed this in a meeting with Imo State Universal Basic Education Board in Owerri.
According to Mr Aremu, the FRSC has always been concerned about the lives of Accident Victims, especially innocent School Children and their Teachers.
He therefore proposed a partnership between the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Road Safety Corps of the Imo State Safety Command for a Training Workshop for Teachers on Road Safety in Basic Schools.
Responding, the Chairman of the Board, Mrs Elizberth Ejiogu described the proposed Training as a welcome development that would expose Teachers to know how to reduce the high rate of Road Mishaps.
She recalled that the 2010 Research showed that over five hundred Children and their Teachers were estimated to have been killed yearly across the World, and assured the Command of the partnership of the State Government.
