The Industrial Training Fund Programme has trained over one Hundred thousand Nigerians in over thirty trades and crafts which most of the youths benefited immensely on the programme are today gainfully employed or very successful entrepreneurs.
The Director-General/Chief Executive of Industrial Training Fund, Sir Joseph N. ARI, KSM, said this during the week of Flag-off of the 2017 NISDP in Uyo. Said the programme has been benefit for our teeming youths as it has kick against cultism and negative vices paving way for our youths to escape the trap of poverty.
He said the programme would equip three hundred youths, ages between 18 and 35 years, with skills in welding and fabrication, tailoring and fashion design, plumbing and pipe fitting. It is noteworthy that the selected trades and crafts were chosen based on an indepth study that revealed their projected value addition to the beneficiaries, and their potentialities to provide a sustainable means of livelihood for the trainees on graduation.
The Director-General said they have a system that monitor the development of graduants of the programme, as up to ninth percent of the beneficiaries have sustainable livelihoods either as paid worker’s, or as entrepreneurs, who are even employing others, particularly where they were provided with starter packs.
Earlier, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Ekereobong Akpan said the vision of National Industrial Skills Development Programme is in line with the cardinal thrusts of our administration which revolves around job, Wealth Creation And Poverty Alleviation. This administration believes that empowering youths with the right skill-set will bring out the latent talents embedded in them and they will subsequently rise to the faith of their greatness. This is why we have trained our youths in various layers of skills acquisition.
He said government has not failed over their determination, as they have trained one thousand youths in Oracle Software Management and equipped them with needed start-up kids after graduation, we had sent one hundred youths to Israel to acquire Skills on mechanized farming, we also had sent some qualified unemployed youths for training abroad to equip them with the needed skills to work at our newly commissioned metering solution company and syringe manufacturing Company.
