Reps Committee on BES/UBEC Visit Imo For Assessment

Members of House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education Services (BES) and the delegation of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have visited Imo State.
Leading the Federal Delegation on a courtesy call to the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha at the Government House, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education Services, Alhaji Zakari Mohammed said they are in Imo State to access the utilisation of the funds being given to the States through UBEC for Basic Education  Structures and Facilities, which is part of their oversight function.
Alhaji Mohammed disclosed that Imo State is supposed to have accessed over ten billion naira from 2005 till date out of which 8.3 billion naira has been utilized.
He urged the State Government to access the remaining 1.7 billion naira fund, which is theirs to utilise.
Responding, the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha explained that the State Government has built over four hundred and fifty five new Class Room Buildings in its bid to improve the Standard of Education in the State.
According to him, the introduction of free Education in the State and the completion of enough School Buildings has helped to improve School enrolment.
He laid emphasis that Government is adequately utilizing its limited resources to achieve good results, and suggested that States be allowed to construct their own version of School Structures.
Owelle Okorocha explained that Imo State Government embarked on Upstair Class Room Building for durability because Bungalows do not last for more than ten years.
