You may, perhaps, not in the least, be bothered by the apparent “noise making” now buzzing in the Christian world, but to some seeming critically minded christains, the phenomenon is, non-thless, rather worrisome.
A minister of the Gospel, Rev. Canon Henry Okonkwo, now among the concerned christians regarding the alleged “noise – making” has while expressing a very great displeasure over the trend, questioned the real objectives of the act, demanding its pragmatic relevance.
Rev. Canon Okonkwo who is the vicar of the Good Shepherd Anglican Church Okpoko, had in an interview with our reporters condemned what he called the present noise making among some religious groups, saying that such noise making has scarcely produced results commensurate to the degree of noise being generated.
In his words, “We often time say that Nigeria is about the most churchious country, because, every corner where you go, every corner, every street and road you go, you see one church or the other. In a single building of say three storey, for instance, you will find no less than four churches all of them struggling for attention and patronage.
“Infact, we make too much noise with very little result, if there is any result at all”.
He regretted that instead of preachers to strive to live the righteous life they rather get themselves obsessed with selfish spirit of owning their own churches.
According to him, where the problem always lies with some preachers is their ability or otherwise of living out what they preach.
“Some preachers” he said, “mislead their followers with the inconsistent life they lead. Some are only mindful of the money they will get, while forgetting the main thing Jesus sent us into the world to do”, he said.
Also, while frowning at the attitude of some Christians who he said fan the embers of denominationalism, he advised that such mindset should be changed, explain that being too much conscious of one’s denomination is capable of breeding hatred and division.
