Management of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) has given assurance that it would partner with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) to ensure a hitch free 2017 press week. The Director General of the Corporation, Pastor Raph Afoaku made this disclosure when members of the central planning committee for the 2017 Press Week paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday, August 17th, 2017.
According to Pastor Afoaku, the union’s press week has become a platform where issues affecting members of the body are discussed; assuring that the partnership between the Union and the Corporation would engender development where media practitioners would see the need to report the good side of government rather than otherwise. He therefore commended the leadership of the central planning committee for been proactive in ensuring a better 2017 press week, and appealed to them to continue to move on the same speed, while expressing optimism that the event would be the best since its inception.
In his reaction, Chairman of the committee and leader of the delegation, Chief Everest Ezihe applauded the IBC DG for reviving the corporation within the short period he assumed office, describing him as a high bred professional. Chief Ezihe while highlighting the challenges facing his committee, further appealed to the DG to assist the Union to bring her plight to the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha towards ensuring that the welfare of media practitioners in Imo State is taken as one of the priorities of his administration.
According to him, the efforts of media practitioners in integrating peace and unity in the state should not be overemphasized, assuring that his committee in collaboration with the leadership of the union would not leave any stone unturned in making the society a better place to live. Members of the committee who joined in the delegation include, NUJ Vice Chairman, Chief Chris Akaraonye, Comr. Ikenna Onuoha (Media Consultant) and Mrs. Juliet Dim.
